Happy New Year’s Eve! I know I’m not alone in being happy to leave 2020 behind, and looking forward to a new year. Although we’re still in the midst of the pandemic and under lockdown here in Ontario, the promise of even a partial fresh start feels really good right now.

2020 has been a difficult year. Amidst the challenges and the uncertainty, though, there have been some silver linings. Today I’m sharing the top 3 things that 2020 has taught me.

Read on for my insights and if you’d like to share what 2020 has taught you too, COMMENT BELOW and let me know! I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to connecting in 2021.

The Top 3 Things That 2020 Has Taught Me

It’s safe to say that we’ll all remember the year 2020 for the rest of our lives. Positive and negative, it has shaped us irrefutably. And everyone I talk to, from my closest friends to my long-time clients, has learned some lessons along the way.

Without further ado, here are my 3 greatest lessons of 2020:

I can’t control everything – learning to let go

  • As an Enneagram Type 3 who’s extremely task-oriented, this pandemic has taught me how many things in our lives are completely out of our control. Releasing control isn’t something that comes easy to me, but learning to “let go” has been a good lesson for me.

It is what it is – the art of acceptance

  • “It is what it is” – I’ve said this expression more this year than in my entire life! Similar to learning that I cannot control everything, this year I’ve had to learn to accept so many things the way they are. For example, it was frustrating that my daughter’s grade 8 graduation was a non-event, and that she started high school only going to classes half the time. She’s missing out on all the socializing that comes with going to a new school and meeting new people, and making new friends isn’t really happening. But there is nothing we can do to change this. We’re learning together to accept what is and to make the most of it.

✨ Slowing down was needed – for everyone and everything

  • In our ridiculously face-paced lives, the lockdown gave many of us the space and time to reflect on what’s truly important. This pause was much needed by all – especially our environment. Seeing the massive impact that a few weeks of changing our behaviour had on our environment is something that will stay with me well past this pandemic.
