Many people love an all-white kitchen. White kitchens feel clean, fresh and classic. They’re light and bright. But there’s no denying it: after years of being a top kitchen trend, white kitchens are on their way out.
In direct opposition to the all-white trend, black kitchens have become quite popular. Black is bold, sophisticated, elegant and dramatic. It brings an element of the unexpected to a kitchen.
Black kitchens with metallic accents have modernized the classic look of a black shaker style kitchen. And like white, black is a neutral that pairs well with any other colour. Black can be modern or it can be classic. It’s a very versatile
shade.
Here are my top tips for making a black kitchen work beautifully:
- Moderation, moderation, moderation! Go bold, but don’t go ALL black. This kitchen (above) works because of the contrast with the white backsplash, marble flooring and light-coloured island countertop.
- Keep it well-lit! To avoid a gloomy feeling, it’s essential to make sure you have plenty of lighting — natural and/or artificial — in a black kitchen. Here, we used black hanging lights to t the aesthetic of the room while keeping it light and bright.
- Ease into it. If all black feels like too much, consider using black accents instead — this can still go a long way and look really stylish. I would love to know what you think. Love it? Or pass?
