Get Bigger Bang for Your Buck

Feature walls: we love them for a reason. They’re bold, beautiful and eyecatching. They can help to transform a room and to dene a space, which is especially helpful in today’s popular open-concept designs. They make a big impact but are a quick and easy design feature to incorporate. Best of all, they’re memorable highlights that sear themselves in potential home buyers’ minds, helping them to keep your model home or suite top of mind.

A feature wall doesn’t have to cost a lot to create. Paint and wallpaper are costeffective options, although all kinds of materials can be used — from tiles to stone to wood treatments. Paint is generally the most affordable, and we can
incorporate fun patterns or funky graphics to take it up another notch.

Accessories and artwork can also add impact and personality to feature walls. Think family photos, gallery-style art, shelving, collections, vases, plants and owers or whatever else sparks your interest.

Read on for 4 key details that my team and I always take into consideration when designing a feature wall:

  1. Highlight a room’s focal point
Put the focus where you want the eye to go, such as a fireplace mantel or the headboard in a bedroom.
  2. Choose the right colours/patterns
Choose a colour/pattern that complements the entire room. Don’t let a feature wall stand alone. Tie it all in.
  3. Pick a mood and stick with it
For a cohesive look, make sure that the feature wall reflects the room’s mood. Think whimsical, laid-back, eclectic, or posh
  4. Give it space to breathe
Feature walls are best in rooms that aren’t over-crowded. They make a big impact in a smaller room, decorate all the walls.
