Fall Decor Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

Hello and happy fall! That’s right, despite this beautiful sunny weather, fall is officially here.

I love this season. Fall is all about change, evolution, maturity, abundance, reconnection, and balance. The harvest season gives us ripeness, maturity, abundance, prosperity and wealth. Fall’s falling leaves symbolize change, and although the season can be a bit melancholic — winter is coming! — it’s still beautiful and we recognize the cycle of life (and the cycles within our own lives) within the cycles of nature. As winter approaches, we start to retreat indoors, to get cozy and to nest, and also to retreat inward emotionally, reconnecting with ourselves and our loved ones. Especially this fall, in the era of COVID-19 and amidst fears of a second wave, the feeling of retreat is great. But it doesn’t need to be gloomy. Fall gives us a feeling of renewal as a new cycle begins.

Today I’m offering a fresh and fun take on fall decor. If you’re missing the summertime, these ideas will help you to embrace the new season and to fall in love with autumn. And if you’re already a fall fan (sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes, anyone?!) then this will be right up your alley.

Fresh, Fun, Inspired Fall Decor

I love fall decor! The season lends itself perfectly to fresh, natural decor because of the abundance of the harvest season and the beautiful colours that are present in nature.

Here are some of my favourite ways to bring the autumn season into my interior design, both indoors and out:

🍁 Incorporate natural elements: Pumpkins and gourds and pinecones, oh my! Crisp apples and spicy cinnamon sticks, how delicious! Changing leaves in dazzling hues of red, orange and yellow, how beautiful! The natural elements of fall are absolutely stunning when worked into your interior design. Make a seasonal wreath (don’t wait until Christmas!), arrange different sizes and colours of pumpkins on your front porch (I also love assorted gourds on the dinner table as a centrepiece), or bring some warmth indoors with cinnamon sticks arranged in a glass jar.

🍁 Embrace the colours of the season: Those warm reds, oranges and yellows perfectly encapsulate the mood and flavour of fall, and bringing them into your interior decor is a perfect way to embrace the season. I love a fall flower arrangement with elegant shades of orange, burgundy and yellow. Other great fall hues to use as accent colours are deep greens and splashes of gold — these complement the red, oranges and yellows beautifully.

🍁 Add warm light: Beeswax candles, floor lamps, even strands of twinkly lights in a kid’s bedroom or backyard porch— they’re all great ways to add more warmth to your home. As the days get shorter, keeping your home bright is essential!

🍁 Up the coziness factor: Nothing says fall like coziness. A plaid wool throw added to the sofa, pillows in soft materials like suede or velvet, chunky knit blankets or a plush area rug are all easy ways to add coziness to your fall decor.

🍁 Have fun and be creative: There are so many fun ways to embrace the season, even if you’re not into traditional fall decor. Try painting mini pumpkins all white or in your favourite colours and patterns, livening up your dining room table with an extravagant centrepiece, or adding unexpected fall touches to rooms that you don’t usually update. Another way to pay homage to the season is to add a festive front door mat with a fun message.
